End of Days
The priest says that St. John saw the number 666 in his vision, but it was actually 999 inverted. I'm not sure, but I don't believe St. John read modern Arabic numerals like we do. Didn't he read Roman numerals? I think if St. John saw the number 666, it would actually be DCLXVI. After Arnold drops through the newspaper stand from the helicopter and chases after the priest, we never really get to see him disconnect his harness. As a matter of fact he takes off running with it still attached. [When abseiling from a helicopter, or anything for that matter, you just pull the rope out to disconnect it - the rope's not permanently attached to the harness]. After the priest writes down 666 on a piece of paper, he holds it upside down to reveal that it is 999, but we also notice it's in someone else's handwriting. When Arnie goes on to the church for the first time, the priest dismisses him and exits through a door. When the door is open you see an ornate banner on the other side in a well lit room. When Arnie walks through the door it is into a small dark room at the top of some steps with no banner. When Arnie is in the church the things on the tables keep changing - in one shot we candles on it but in the next we see a cross. In the scene after the priest writes down the number 666 (999), he says that the devil should "reproduce" at the last hour of the millennium. Arnold asks, "eastern time?", and the priest replies, that it's the position of stars that matters. However, at the end of the film the devil went down under because it couldn't "reproduce" at the last eastern hour of the millennium. In the scene near the beginning where Arnie is guarding the executive, we see a convoy of vehicles. The vehicle which Arnie is travelling in is a Chevrolet Suburban in the wide angle shot, but in the close frame shot where he actually gets out, the van is a GMC. In the scene where Satan enters the church demanding to know where Christine York is, one of the priests approaches him with a crucifix. The camera is facing the priest, Satan grabs the crucifix and stabs the priest right in the centre of his forehead (just above the eyebrow line). The camera angle changes to facing Satan and when the priest hits the deck, the crucifix is sticking out of his head higher up and above his left eyebrow. In the beginning of the movie, the camera is supposed to be giving us the view through Satan's eyes. We see the camera wind through a crowd of pedestrians, (pay attention this happens real quick) and we can see one man almost walk towards the centre then back up a step as if he almost ran into something. Keep in mind that no one is supposed to see Satan at this point. Just when Jericho catches the priest jumping off the rooftop with Jericho hanging from the helicopter. in the next shot, his partner yells, "He's Got Him!" When the shot goes back to Jericho, He's hanging from the line with no priest in his hands. The next shot shows him hanging from the helicopter, holding on to the priest. In the subway scene, after Christine has given the bum the money and he shatters, his face hits the floor with the top of his head towards Christine, and his face away from her, when the shot changes to a close-up, his head has turned, and is facing her. In the end of the movie, in the church-scene, the "wind of evil" blows down the all the benches like dominoes. In the next second they're all back in an upright position again. The writers of the film don't seem to realise the gravity of the fact that the bad guy is Satan. Therefore, it seems unlikely that Jericho could outsmart him (much less defeat him) or that Jericho could even consider that he is "a f#$@ing choirboy" compared to the Prince Of Darkness. After Arnie has saved Christine from the priests who tried to kill her in her bedroom, he says "I've never heard the last rites performed before". However, a) he was not in the room when they were actually reading them, so he would not have heard above all the fighting, and b) it is unlikely that somebody who was not religious would recognise a ritual such as the last rites. When the kid wearing the SATAN RULZ shirt is hit by the bus, it is pretty obvious that the kid wasn't really hit by the bus and the effect was added later |
